What it’s like to meet Jacqueline Wilson

At eleven years old in my home city, my mum and I waited in a queue of other excited young readers holding copies of Jacqueline Wilson’s books. I hadn’t been able to sleep much due to both fear and joy of finally hearing one of my favourite authors give a talk about the Hetty Feather series.

Out of the blue, a young volunteer in a bright t-shirt came up to ten of us in the queue and placed a green spot sticker on our tickets. We were the lucky ones since we had been chosen to attend a meet and greet after the talk!

When the time came, I nervously stood next to Jacqueline Wilson and quietly mentioned that I loved all her books and wanted to be a famous writer just like her. She smiled, wished me and my mum well, and said to let my imagination do the talking since that brings creative and expressive joy.

What it’s like to meet Westlife

Westlife

Westlife is my all-time favorite boy-group. In 1999, Westlife visited Malaysia twice, and I got a chance to meet them in person on their second visit. I was only 13 years old at that time. My friend’s mother was the manager of Radio 4 (one of the English-language radio stations in Malaysia. It is now called TraXX FM). Westlife came to Radio 4 for a radio interview. So my friend invited me to watch the interview live.

I was happy for the opportunity to meet my favorite group. I felt like I was flying with wings at that time. The five Irish boys were so insanely handsome. I was in love. Hehehe! My favorite Westlifer was Kian Egan. Kian was quite shy but still friendly to his fans. Shane and Mark were the most friendly and lively in Westlifer.

After the interview, my friend and I took pictures with Westlife and got the boys to sign our autograph book. We also gave Westlife our handmade craft as presents. Shane liked my present. He also complimented me and said that the present was very creative. I was happy and grateful.

Meeting Westlife is one of the best memories of my teenage years. I am happy and grateful for the opportunity. Thank you to my friend, Teha for inviting me to meet my favorite boy-group in person.

Ten years ago, my minister spoke on living a joyful life and watching out for people who try to steal your joy.

His message resonated with me and I began reading everything I could find about joy. Then I started collecting sayings and knick-knacks about joy. Today, there are joy plaques in every room in my home and some rooms have 20 reminders of joy in them.

When I retired, I immediately knew I needed to turn all this joy into a book. And so the process began. I spent the next year writing a daily inspirational book focused on living an abundant life of joy, blessings, and inner peace.

My book is now in the hands of my editor and Discover Your Joy will be ready to release globally by the end of 2020.

The year I spent writing was exhilarating, uplifting, and certainly joyful. But, it was also tough, mind boggling, and laborious. I wouldn’t exchange that year for anything.

I was fortunate that I had found my inspiration so many years ago. Through the last ten years, I had read and studied extensively on joy. I had begun a blog and a Facebook page dedicated to spreading joy, love, and gratitude around the world. I, then, felt confident to pursue writing a book about joy.

A few months after I began working on my book, my teenage granddaughter began writing a fiction book. We have spent months sharing ideas, support, and word counts. We are almost ready to release our books and start sharing book signings.

Being a writer comes from your soul. You are driven and know this is your calling. And, just know, you can find inspiration anywhere – even church.

Be joyful always!
