It doesn’t take long as a new blogger to learn that a successful blog is as much about the cosmetics as the content. So, when the website Easy to Retire put out a call for guest posts, blog design is a topic that instantly came to mind. As a result, I submitted the following article to them: 10 Crucial Blog Design Choices You Need to Pay Attention To.

Good content wrapped up in a messy package of blog design choices can really diminish its effectiveness. Everything from small print to blurry photos to a busy color scheme can distract from the actual content. We tend to get too experimental or too rushed in our need to put ourselves out there as personally and as quickly as possible.

But professionalism counts just as much as charisma in the blogging game. We have to learn the rules and adapt as they change. We also have to keep redesigning as our blog grows and our focus shifts. It needs to be able to appeal not only to readers but to advertisers, potential employers, and anyone else who we want to see our work.

So check out my article on Easy to Retire, and let me know if any of my tips have inspired you to improve your blog. Also, check out my recommendations for guest posting and other submission opportunities on my Writing Tools and Calls for Submissions section of Laura’s Books and Blogs. Feel free to send me your posted articles once they are published!
