My latest review for LitPick is Cody and the Fountain of Happiness by Tricia Springstubb. I love the fact that LitPick allows you to choose which books you want to review because so far, I’ve liked every book that I have reviewed for them, and this book keeps that streak going. In fact, it’s my favorite book that I have reviewed so far.
This book is a fun summer story that chronicles a little girl’s neighborhood adventures. Cody is feisty, funny, and a bit of a busy body. When she’s happy, she’s really happy. When she’s sad, she’s really sad. She doesn’t have any major conflicts to deal with. She’s just a regular kid whose conflicts are small, but they are important to her.
A great middle grade read
I love the illustrations in this book as well. They really help to depict the personalities of each character and the situations that they face. I also like how the chapters are named. That’s something that I toy with in my books, and it really works for this story.
This book is one in a series of stories centered around Cody, and I will be on the lookout for the others the next time I visit the bookstore. Springstubb writes the kind of stories that I used to seek out at the local library when I was a kid, and they are stories that remind me what it was like to be a kid. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you, Laura! I love your description of Cody as a regular kid whose conflicts may appear small but instead loom large for her–that is precisely the book I was trying to write. I hope you’ll check out the other three CODY books, one for each season. And agreed: illustrator Eliza Wheeler is a genius.
Thanks for the comment! I will definitely check out the others in the series.
